Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question that isn't answered below? Feel free to reach out and we'd be happy to help!

"I was suffering from medical litigation stress for over 2 years. I had lost all the pleasure in medicine and was seriously considering abandoning it to start construction training. When I caught myself reading about physician suicide rates in the U.S. and its often-unspoken association with malpractice claims I confided with a colleague. She referred me to Laura Fortner. I had previously only superficially heard about coaching, and my preconception was pathetic. It does work! And fast! You learn how to recognize and accept the emotions and see the suit through facts.

It has given me all my strength and passion for medicine back! It is inspirational! I don’t need to be stuck in the suit anymore! I am still hopeful for the best outcome in the case, but I don’t need to wait for it to be over to live and be happy. Independent of what happens, what defines me is way beyond that “thing.” I wish every colleague that is going through that could talk to her! I highly recommend it!"

"The coaching session this morning really made a positive difference in me! It is sooo good and inspirational! Great to feel validated, but also how to reflect objectively! Thanks so much once again! You saved the day!"

"I am getting sued and Dr. Fortner has helped me go from shame, self-doubt, fear of reputation and unknown to learning how to move forward. She has given me the tools on how to be present with my family and not feel so out of control. One problem in particular is the intrusive thoughts that come out of nowhere and then I find myself spiraling down. I have been able to significantly impact my mood and be present with the tools she teaches. After working with her for 3 months, I am moving forward and living my life with more peace and joy."

-Anonymous MD, Surgery

"If you had asked me if I would ever go to a life coach, I would have thought that was something other people did. But I was going through a rough patch at work—I haven't been sued, but almost felt like something similar. I had a mentor that I thought was helping me understand things, and yet I still felt all this self-doubt.

I wasn't sure about coaching when I gave Dr. Fortner a call, but she listened to my whole story and let me decide for myself if it was something I wanted to do. I felt that she really listened and could relate to what I was going through. I felt like it was going to be a good fit so I went for it.

Since meeting with Dr. Fortner, my mindset has changed so that I no longer feel like I am the victim of some other circumstance. I can be in control of my own destiny. Of course, I'm still going through the sessions, but I don't feel like I am drowning or feeling lost. I thought I was working through things on my own, but having the mindset change within a few weeks instead of the couple of years it took me to get to this point has really made a difference in my overall well-being. Dr. Fortner listens to the words that you don't realize you are saying and shows you how these thoughts are limiting you from your potential.

I would say that you have to be in the right mindset to start the training. You have to be ready and willing to go through the "treatments." Because that's what the sessions are, they are like treatments for your mind. You have to do the mental exercises and put in the work to get those doubts out of the way, and then the sky's the limit! I really appreciate Dr. Fortner and the lessons and affirmations she has given me. I look forward to the sessions every week!"

I'm Laura Fortner, M.D.

I'm a board-certified OB/GYN.

Several years ago I was hit with a malpractice lawsuit, and what a roller-coaster ride it has been. It is still not over for me. I have felt shame, loneliness, anger, doubt, fear, and helplessness. I tried many things to heal, and “just get over it,” but nothing seemed to work until I decided to invest in help from a life coach. After previous failed attempts, I never thought this would work (and life coaching didn't seem like my thing). BUT it was the one and only solution for becoming aware of my thoughts and taking back my power. It helped me learn the tools to overcome the anger, fear, isolation, shame, and self-doubt that crept back into my brain. And it helped me be at peace with whatever happens with my lawsuit.

After getting RESULTS and feeling revived, I knew I had to help other physicians going through the same thing. We are a profession that mixes up who we are with what we do and the personal and moral injury that occurs after a lawsuit can be devastating. I am so passionate about this that I know I can help you if you are reading this today. I help physicians rediscover their purpose and joy and find peace with whatever happens. I also equip physicians for the legal system and prepare them for the roller-coaster ride.
